January 29-30, we saw about a 7 inch snow in Nashville. It started Friday with some sleet and wet snow, perfect for packing and building a snowman. By Saturday, after all of the snow had fallen and the temperature dropped a bit, it was a little harder to pack the snow.

But it made excellent sledding conditions. It's been a few years since we had this much snow.

Here are the kids with Bryan after pumpkin carving. Chester is observing from inside the house. Who says the face has to be on the side of the pumpkin?

We were in and around Flagstaff, AZ in June and went to the Grand Canyon a few days. This picture is at one of the overlooks on the canyon rim. We hiked the Bright Angel trail from the rim down to the bottom of the canyon and back. The end of the trail, here, is on a cliff overlooking the Colorado. All day on the trail, Sara kept asking for us to teach her how to use the camera. So here is one of her first pirtures. Not bad! This is taken at a tunnel on the Bright Angel about 1/2 mile below the rim.

This is at a park on a canyon highway south of Flagstaff, about halfway to Sedona.

After Arizona we were in Durango, CO, near Mesa Verde and the ruins of the cliff dwellers. On the left is Sara and Joshua at one of the cliff dwellers homes. While we were there we went to a winter ski resort which was converted for summer use. On the right is Sara racing down the ski slope in an Alpine racer.

And what ski resort is complete without bungy jumping. That's Sara on the left and Josh on the right.

Josh, Alex and Jim all ran the 2009 Country Music Half Marathon. Here are a couple of pictures, Josh on the left and Alex on the right.

Here is the whole team after the half marathon. On the far right is Josh running a relay in the spring track finals.

If you get up real early in the morning, sometimes you'll find just enough snow to build a snowman. This one was built one Sunday morning before church. By the time we got home after church, the snowman was the only snow left.

There is a 12 mile trail around Fall Creek Falls park. From the nature center the trail goes along the ridge over Cane Creek, down through the Cane Creek gulf, up the ridge on the other side, around Piney Falls and Fall Creek Falls and back to the nature center. The trail goes down 600 feet from the ridge into the gulf and back up 600 feet to the other ridge. This picture is at the bridge over Cane Creek at the bottom of the gulf.

We all survived the hike!

In July we went on a mission trip to Providence World Ministries in Honduras. The primary goals of the trip were
  • medical care at John Eaves Medical Clinic
  • construction on one of the group orphan homes
  • Bible school for children in the area

Honduras is a beautiful country. Providence is in Siguatepeque, Honduras, in the mountains about 70 miles southwest of San Pedro Sula. This picture was taken somewhere between San Pedro Sula and Siguatepeque.

Honduras is unfortunately also quite poor.

Here is a picture from the preschool graduation at Nashville Christian School. There were three graduating preschool classes and each one performed a couple of songs. Sara's class sang "Here I Am to Worship".

Josh ran a 6:03 mile in the HVAC finals

He also ran the country music half marathon in 1:59, 6th in his age group.

February 23rd and we finally had a little snow. There was only enough for Josh and Sara to get out early and build a snowman head.

Sara had a princess cake for her birthday. Sara, making a snow angel. There was about 6" of snow in Wisconsin this Christmas.

Josh playing broomball. For those not familiar with the game, it's a little like ice hockey except that it's played with a small ball, like a small kickball. The players wear street shoes and hit the ball with a broom. It can probably be considered a contact sport. Josh, pictured here is wearing ice skates which gives him a big advantage over those of us wearing shoes.

Josh's birthday party this year was at Europa (golf and go carts).

We had some rain the night before the party so the track was slick and the brakes didn't work.

Who needs brakes anyway?

Sara went as a bumble bee this year for trick-or-treating

Joshua went as a pirate to a Halloween party.

And as a dirty bomb for trick-or-treating.

Joshua ran the kid's marathon in Nashville last April. The kids run 25 miles on their own, just at a mile or two at a time, and then on 'marathon day' they race the last mile. This fall he ran middle school cross country at Ensworth where he is in the 6th grade. This picture is at the final meet for the season where he placed 5th for the school.

Somewhere around Niagra Falls It was easy to find. It's around the back - just a half a mile from the railroad track. But it's been closed for years.
